Between those events, a printed work order travels through assembly. People on the floor know what they are building, but the inventory record has not followed the work.<\/p>\n<p>Now another order arrives. The office needs to know whether there are enough components to start it. Some stock is still on the shelf. Some has already gone into an unfinished assembly. Other components are inside completed products waiting to leave. A total that does not distinguish those situations cannot answer the question on its own.<\/p>\n<h2>The missing information is between the counts<\/h2>\n<p>A regular warehouse count is valuable, but it answers a different question: what is physically in the locations being counted? If the count excludes assembly areas and completed goods, it cannot explain the whole journey from loose components to a product ready to ship.<\/p>\n<p>The office may therefore need to check with production before making a commitment. Production may need to separate what is already being used from what remains available. The information exists, but it is spread across paperwork, benches and people rather than reflected in the same inventory record.<\/p>\n<p>That distinction matters even in a straightforward assembly business. The challenge is not necessarily complicated scheduling. It is knowing whether a quantity represents usable components, work already underway, or finished products. A manager who cannot distinguish unused stock from material already in production has to investigate before giving an answer. Those events let the business distinguish components still held as components from quantities that have become something else.<\/p>\n<p>This also separates two questions that are easy to confuse: what stage has the material reached, and where is it physically stored? Production records address the first. Location records address the second.
