Investigate the short pick before changing the promise
A short pick can reveal stock in the wrong location, damaged goods, an inaccurate balance or a quantity already needed elsewhere. The warehouse first confirms the product, unit, physical location and any lot or serial requirement.
The next action depends on that finding. Another valid location may cover the quantity, while a genuine shortage needs a supply or customer-service response. Inventory corrections follow the business's control process, based on what the team establishes.

Decide whether the available goods should leave now
Consider a hypothetical customer order for 20 units. The warehouse has picked 16, and the missing four will not be available today. There are at least two business choices: send 16 now and agree a later delivery for four, or hold the shipment until the full quantity is ready.
Sales or customer service confirms the customer's requirements and the order's delivery terms. The warehouse should receive the agreed instruction before packing or dispatch, including any revised commitment for the balance.
The customer may need a complete kit, or the cost of two deliveries may outweigh the value of sending the first quantity early. A partial shipment is a useful option, not automatically the right outcome for every short pick.

When creating the shipment in Versa Cloud ERP, use the actual quantity going out. Posting updates the inventory and the order's shipped quantity. The outstanding balance remains part of the order's further fulfillment work unless the business separately changes or cancels it through its order process.
Where pick-pack-ship is enabled, the shipment workflow uses the goods prepared through picking and packing. Where direct shipment entry is used, the shipper still confirms the quantity against the physical dispatch.
Give the balance an owner and a next step
After the partial shipment, customer service needs the quantity sent, tracking information where applicable and the plan for the remainder. Purchasing, production or another facility may own the next supply step.
Open order information supports reviewing quantities still to ship. A later receipt or completed production job should prompt a new fulfillment decision for that balance, rather than an assumption that the first shipment completed the whole order.
If the customer no longer wants the remainder, record that commercial change through the appropriate order process. Keep it distinct from goods that were actually shipped so the transaction history remains understandable.
