Overview:

Passionate about high-quality bedding the business started manufacturing and selling fine linen from a retail location in NY. Initially, the linen was only sold to wholesalers. Over time the business set up retail stores in several states in the US. For business systems, the user had deployed Xtuple (Open Source ERP system) for accounting at the headquarters, which they ran on local servers. Retail stores deployed Imonggo POS to take and process orders and manage inventory at the store. For the e-commerce store, they used Shopify.

The business managed the store inventory with the Imonggo system. The inventory at the headquarters was sorted and managed by a 3PL by xTuple System.

This system has served them well over the years. However, with each passing year, the system becomes more and more expensive to maintain. Open-source ERP consultants are in high demand. Therefore, someone coming in to fix a problem and/or upgrade the software is expensive.

The system had been customized over the years and it got harder and harder to migrate to another system if required. And more expensive. The business needed to re-key all the data from one system to another to initiate a transfer due to lack of integration.

Other than that, access to information was not real-time. The data was manually collected once a week from each location, then consolidated in spreadsheets. There was a gap between the collection and reporting of data. Which resulted in an unfulfilled eCommerce order (or canceled).  This is because the headquarters did not know that a store in another state has inventory.
